Radical Generosity

On 16 September 2018, one of our home-grown speakers Evelyn S gave a message on radical generosity. Evelyn have left us with three points to reflect on.

There are three ways of giving:

  1. Talent – Acts 3:6 “Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” Give by starting to serve those around you, easiest in church!

  2. Treasure – Acts 4:32 “All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had.” God doesn’t want your money, he wants to set you free of greed, self-pity, and performance pressure. Give a percentage, not an amount – you’ll be surprised how quickly this percentage will grow. If you’re faithful in the little, God can entrust you lots.

  3. Time – Acts 20:35: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Start receiving the joy of giving! Switch off Netflix and listen to a friend who needs you. Invest your time into your family, your marriage, your kids – the blessing is going to overwhelm you!

Why give?

All the people in the Bible had a radical encounter with Jesus before they started their radical generosity. They truly understood God’s love and his good plans for them. Evelyn would like to encourage you to have a radical encounter with Jesus, to allow the Holy Spirit to fill you with his presence so you would start giving not out of your own strength, but from the overflow of his goodness in your life! Let generosity become your second nature.

Have faith!

Faith is not blind, faith is knowing God’s character as a loving father and knowing your identity as his beloved child. Know that God will provide for you, that he has plans for you to prosper and never to harm you. Know that God can move the mountain, because he has done so before. Sow into other’s lives with generosity, and trust that God will heal the broken hearted as you invest your talent of friendship, that he will provide income when you sow your treasure into the kingdom, that he will mend relationships as you invest your time into other people’s lives. See it and believe it!
